We speed up on a path to carbon neutrality

Our commitments for the climate

Our main goals:

  • We will decrease our emission in the 2026 perspective by 33% against 2019 levels.
  • We aim to eliminate coal from our production by 2033.
  • We commit to reach net-zero emissions by 2040*.

Which UN SDGs goals we deliver in this commitment

Commitment No. 1 is “Accelerating decarbonisation”, which assumes a 33% reduction in CO2 emissions by the Group compared to the base year 2019, a complete resignation from coal-based energy production by 2033, and climate neutrality by 2040.

We will achieve this through the use of thermal waste processing plants as an energy source in our production plants in Poland (currently, this type of source is already in operation in our German plant), the use of gas as a fuel to replace power coal, as well as many smaller-scale initiatives to improve the efficiency of energy and raw materials use, and to improve the efficiency of production processes.

We are also developing our own innovative technologies, such as concentration and recycling of carbon dioxide in the soda production process. Complete climate neutrality will require us to apply technologies that are not yet in operation on an industrial scale, such as the use of hydrogen fuel, small nuclear reactors, high-efficiency batteries, carbon dioxide capture and storage, and many more.

We decouple growth and energy consumption

Our commitments for the climate

Commitment No. 2 is to systematically reduce, on an annual basis, the amount of energy needed to manufacture our products.

  • Gas included in energy mix
  • Energy efficiency and process improvements (reduction of emissions:>70k tons annualy in approved projects)
  • Fleet modernization (Reduction of emissions: >50k tons annualy)

Which UN SDGs goals we deliver in this commitment

Commitment No. 2 is to systematically reduce, on an annual basis, the amount of energy needed to manufacture our products.

Until we are able to obtain completely renewable and clean energy, reducing the energy consumption of our production will continue to be an important element in reducing our impact on the natural environment.

This does not only entail the use of the most effective available technologies, replacement of our car fleet, the use of environmentally friendly (intermodal) means of transport or replacement of lighting with energy-saving one in all plants of the Group, but also a number of smaller initiatives in the area of production in individual businesses.

We see circularity as a key efficiency lever

Our commitments for the climate

Our main goals:

  • Advanced R&D projects in CO2 recovery, reuse of waste in soda and salt production
  • Water strategies for all plants under preparation
  • Recycled and sustainable resources (glass, foams)

Which UN SDGs goals we deliver in this commitment

Commitment No. 3 is protection of natural resources and circular economy.

We will systematically reduce water consumption in production processes, introduce solutions allowing for greater use of production waste in the production of soda and salt, glass cullet in the production of silicates and packaging, as well as the production of polyurethane foams from recycled or natural raw materials.

In addition, together with our customers, the Group will increase the share of environmentally friendly and recyclable packaging.

We put safety as a top priority

Our commitments for the people and society

Our main goals:

  • We aim for zero accidents
  • We implement highest standards at every location, same for employees and subcontractors.
  • Health&Safety goals included in KPI’s managers

Which UN SDGs goals we deliver in this commitment

Commitment No. 4 is “zero accidents/injuries” at the Group's production plants.

It is a lack of tolerance for violating safety rules, training and developing the competences of the Group's employees and subcontractors, improving security of all business processes within the Group.

The implementation of this goal will be supported by the use of the latest installation monitoring technologies. The level of plant safety is a key component of the managers' evaluation.

We want to be an inclusive place for diverse talents to develop

Our commitments for the people and society

Our main goals:

  • More women in middle/ senior management positions (35% in 2030)
  • Eliminating the gender pay gap –specialist, expert and middle management by 2030.
  • develop internal succession plans (by 2024), leadership performance included in the assessment of ALL managers (by 2023)

Which UN SDGs goals we deliver in this commitment

Commitment No. 5 is CIECH as the best place for the development of its employees’ talents, with its diverse teams and a system for rewarding for the goals pursued at its very core.

We believe that diverse teams achieve better results thanks to the multitude of points of view. Therefore, our goal, among others, is to attract more women to our company and provide them with the opportunity to fully realise their development potential.

As a result, among others, we would like to achieve a natural increase in the share of women in managerial positions to at least 35% in 2030.

We are a responsible part of local communities

Our commitments for the people and society

Our main goals:

  • Continuous and proactive dialogue on important matters with local communities
  • Promoting education : chemistry and support for talented youngsters
  • Preparing „The Good Neigbor Program”

Which UN SDGs goals we deliver in this commitment

Commitment No. 6 is to achieve a “good neighbour” position for local communities where we carry out our operations.

We want to work even closer with local authorities, non-governmental organisations and residents to improve their quality of life.

To this end, we are planning to activate employee volunteering for local initiatives, and to support socially important projects in the immediate vicinity of our production plants.

We join our efforts together with clients and suppliers

Our commitments of cooperation and openness

Our main goals:

  • Introduction of Code of Conduct
  • Introduction of Code of Business Partner
  • We introduce the sustainable procurement initiative – we will review ESG status of suppliers responsible for 70% of expenses by 2023.

Which UN SDGs goals we deliver in this commitment

Commitment No. 7 applies to our business partners. We want to cooperate with those who share our values, thus helping us to implement the idea of sustainable development.

Our Code of Conduct and the Code of Business Partner which both our employees as well as suppliers and service providers are requested to accept, defines the basic principles in terms of human rights, environmental protection and business ethics.
